At the start of the 1600s
a few men and women from France come to Canada to found a settlement. The native peoples, treated as equals, welcome them. A great social experiment is begun, then falters. The colonists find themselves in a fight for survival against hunger, the Devil, and the Iroquois.

In the new land
the monk-priests find the suffering they sought. But they fail in their mission to conquer the hearts and minds of the natives. Their faith and endurance are tested by failure, torment, and martyrdom in a wilderness ruled by the Devil. The Jesuits’ only hope is to find the bone of an Irishman dead 500 years…
